On bank holiday weekend, thousands of fitsters descended on the Business Design Centre in Islington for one of the UKs biggest health and fitness expos for women – Be:Fit London.
I spent most of the day
stuffing my face sampling all the delicious juices, nut butters, healthy snacks and energy bars on show, trying out fitness gadgets and caressing hundreds of print leggings. But I also managed to squeeze in a class with the lithe ladies of Sleek Technique (a kind of ballet/pilates workout to music), and an inspiring talk with Victoria Pendleton about being motivated, staying dedicated and how she dealt with retiring from professional track racing – plus her next challenge to become a competitive jockey!
The show was bursting with fitspiration. You could try classes from London’s coolest and newest workout concepts, like FRAME dance, INSANITY, Barrys Bootcamp and Voga. And listen to talks from fitness legends, nutrition gurus and wellness bods like Denise Lewis, Rebecca Adlington, Madeleine Shaw and Julie Montagu, who all shared their tips, experiences and inspiration. You could also book in for a nutritional assessment and a health check.
I left weighed down with nut butter but lifted sky high on positive vibes – and with these words from Victoria Pendleton stuck in my head: “Never underestimate your own power and potential. There’s more going on inside than you think.”
