Today is the launch of This Girl Can, a campaign by Sport England to encourage more women to exercise. The campaign will highlight the lives of real active women who will tell their stories about keeping fit to help others overcome their fear of being judged – either for their wobbly bits, or getting red and sweaty, or if they feel they’re not good enough. The community will also give women ideas and information about different ways to work out, whether it’s grooving in a zumba class, scaling up a climbing wall, diving into a pool or hopping around a boxing ring.
Women’s fitness can be intimidating, with glamourised images of sports models and the promise of results with punishing gym workouts, but This Girl Can balances that image with real-life role models. This campaign is about empowerment, support, having fun and feeling good. All things I fully endorse here at bellesse.
